Joe and his team did an awesome job on our deck. We got quotes from a few contractors and chose FSBD based on their professionalism during the quoting process. And their designs were much more creative than the other contractors. Pete (foreman) did an amazing job of keeping everything on schedule and keeping us informed of the progress every day. The office personnel at FSBD were very helpful and organized also. The sub-contractors they used were also very professional. The project was completed on time.

When my wife and I found our house, we needed to have our forty-five-year-old deck replaced because it was dry rotted and falling apart. We also happened to see a location on the existing deck where we thought it would be wonderful to put a sunroom. My wife grew up with an enclosed porch and when we connected, that was where we spent a lot of our time together. We actually found another contractor right before settlement with our house, but after more than a year, we decided to let him go due to unprofessionalism. Then we searched for a while and went through numerous contractors. A lot of them were inflating the number and coming back with different quotes, etc. Some also just couldn’t do the job. Then we found First State Building and Design. First we were greeted by Rand, the estimator, who worked with us from the first time he came out to our house and gave us an estimate close to our initial price range. Then he had us brought to the showroom, made changes to the initial proposal and kept us updated along the way. Right before the construction began, we met Pete, the project manager, who came out to our house and gave us an overview of the schedule as well as providing the location of where the material, trailer, dumpster and porta potty would go. Pete and I had a productive review of the work performed at the end of the project and I could tell he really valued my feedback. After the project began, we met Ervin, the main builder, who would be their everyday working on our deck and sunroom. It was an absolute pleasure to work with him and his brother. I can’t say this enough. Make sure you ask for them if you use this company. They were the highlight of this project for me (and they should be because you see them almost everyday). They communicated, were friendly and made small cosmetic designs for us along the way. They were even playing football out in the street during their lunch. Towards the end, I met Joe in-person, the owner, who spoke to me about the entirety of the job and how he had a major part with the project plans in the early stages. He also went over a future project of ours that my wife and I are going to do in the coming years. He provided me an estimated quote and was very helpful with breaking it down for me. The last thing to be finished was to have Matt come out to our house and seed the grass that had to be removed when the project began. Matt spoke to me over the phone and explained to me the process of how to maintain the grass (water, fertilizer, etc). He answered all of my questions and even put a little extra top soil in some extra holes for us. Probably the best piece of advice though I could give away to anyone reading this review would be to ask questions. Ask, ask, ask questions! Ask about the electrical outlets and circuit breakers, ask about insulation, ask about the caulking, ask about any credit that’s due and ask to make sure the job is finished before submitting the final invoice. Ask every question you can think of no matter how annoying it may seem to you and the contractor. It’s your money and any good company will answer and accommodate it if there was a miscommunication along the way. Overall, I am very very pleased with First State Building and Design. They quite literally took me through every step of the process and took the legwork out of it for my wife and I. They are quite professional and I would use them again for other major construction needs. I can honestly say they completed every single request of mine during the entirety of the project. And I mean every single request. I am truly satisfied with the work performed by them. Thank you First State Building and Design for completing our dream project.

I really can’t say enough about the fantastic job that FSBD did on my outdoor deck and patio project. My first introduction to the company was Joe who came out to talk about my project. I found Joe to be knowledgeable and great to consult with about options to make our vision come to life. Once the project kicked off, the on-site team, from carpentry (Tom & Riley), to masonry were fantastic. The guys worked diligently, and made very little noise or mess. Pete was the project manager and also phenomenal throughout, particularly when we had to make a few adjustments throughout. My neighbors commented on how great everything turned out. The communication throughout from Joe and Pete was also wonderful and I never had to worry about providing feedback or getting questions answered along the way. First State Building & Design made our outdoor living space dream into a reality. My wife and I could not be happier with our experience from initial consultation, design process, demolition and construction. Joe helped us envision what would be possible within our budget and design constraints of our home. He had a few excellent ideas that took the design to the next level for us - such as a phantom screen and raising the existing covered porch floor with the deck. Joe was also very patient with us as we made minor design tweaks to ensure everything was perfect. Our project manager was Pete, and he deserves the highest praise. Pete provided incredible service for us, and ensured that we were informed every step of the way. Pete was at our house almost daily checking on progress and communicating next steps. Pete worked hard to ensure that our outdoor space would be usable in time for our baby shower, which was a pleasant surprise. The quality of their work is top notch. Every person that worked on the project was extremely respectful to our property and our family. The craftsmanship of the build is flawless. Exceeded my expectations by so much! From the very first interaction with the Admin Assistant when we scheduled our deck, to our Sales Representative (CJ) to the very end with John. This entire experience has been one of the best experiences we've ever had with a contractor company. Our deck has changed to the whole look of our home with just a few weeks, and we've been getting compliments about our deck. Our neighbors were also done by FSBD. Thank you again for everything.

First State built our new composite deck, replacing and expanding our old wood deck. We opted for aluminum rails with lights. The results are spectacular and the quality of workmanship is outstanding. Many thanks!

We used FSBD to build a 3 season room and an outdoor kitchen off the back of our house. Joe was excellent in walking us through the process, communicating next steps, and listening thoroughly to what we had envisioned. The construction crew was lead by Matt, I cannot say enough good about him and his team. They were friendly and unobtrusive, the site was cleaned up daily, and they went above and beyond in every aspect. He was very communicative and kept us up to date on every aspect of the project. We could not be happier with the results, it came out even better than we imagined.

After falling through my deck I decided it was time to replace it. I looked into several contractors and decided to go with FSBD.They did an excellent job. We had Dave and Ed as our lead carpenters, they went above and beyond. They put up a temporary ramp in the front of our house so my mom could get in and out while the build was going on. They also made a nice cover for our oil fill pipe and cut the deck so it fit perfectly against the stone wall of out house. I would definitely would recommend for your project.
