Ken built a beautiful deck for our home! We chose to work with Ken because he gave us the impression of someone who is very proud of his work and will not cut corners. While building our deck, Ken was meticulous and detailed oriented and communicated effectively. He gave helpful suggestions along the way. The final product is beautiful and definitely a huge upgrade to our old deck. We 100% recommend Ken to anyone who wants a quality and beautiful deck that will last years to come!

Background: Our original rear patio redwood deck was initially installed in 1980, when our House was first built. As the photographs show in 2023, existing dark brown deck boards were lifting with plank screw fasteners exposed. After an unsuccessful attempt to use of Behr penetrating stain, boards were partially restored to a dark brown. After one year, the Behr stain began to visibly peel off of all components of the deck. Douglas fir staircase railings did not soak in or retain the Behr stain. Last year, due to heavy rain, our adjacent underground basement flooded requiring pumping to remove water transferred through the cement foundation of the home. Project Phases: Phase 1: remove all existing wood components of the existing deck. Phase 2: Excavate deck side of the House foundation, a) paint foundation with active water resistant barrier paint to cover all House foundation areas next to the back deck. Bury white 4 inch piped highly absorbent water accumulators and interconnect piping with an existing roof gutter drain system. Phase 3: Install new TREX Transcend “Tiki Torch” wood grain planks using concealed TREX fastener system complimented by new black metal rust resistant stair case fencing and railing system. We were so fortunate to find KEN RECTOR CONSTRUCTION-AUBURN to engineer, furnish and design our project. Ken Rector Construction competitively bid our deck removal and TREX replacement & completed an underdeck "French drain" project, developed a comprehensive Project Statement of Work (SOW) and "Easy-to-Understand" Job Contract, ordered all materials, provided a wonderful three-person thorough construction team (Ken, Rich and Jeremiah) and was available everyday on-site though out the Project. Ken Rector’s Construction Team knew exactly what to do, when and maintained pristine clean-up of the Construction Site every day. Every piece of our old deck was removed by Ken's Team. We were able to relax and watch a “Dream Come True” by selecting a highly professional licensed Contractor, who successfully processed and managed our job and successfully passed a Nevada County Building Permit Inspection for TREX Deck & Stairwell Replacement & new "Concealed French Drain" Construction. Excellent customer service, customer/contractor daily communication and workmanship! Ken Rector's Team is easy to work with. After a long search for a deck contractor, we discovered Ken Rector Construction, and we are very glad we found him! Even though his quote was a bit higher than some of his competitors, it was worth every penny because he knew exactly what we wanted and worked with us to accommodate all of our requests. We needed to replace our wood deck, and wanted to go with Trex. We were so lucky to connect with Ken. From my first contact with Ken, he was clearly very professional, but down to earth. He was transparent about the entire process, and provided a fair rate for the job. He and his crew were wonderful to work with - hardworking, meticulous, conscientious, and respectful. The finished product speaks for itself. They did a great job, and we could not be happier with our new deck.

Ken and his team did such a great job replacing our old deck by a larger deck. They were professional, quick and efficient. Even the new deck had passed inspection and the project was ready to be wrapped up, Ken replaced one of the footings for a more perfect line up with the other footings. He definitely has high standards. Working with him was a very positive experience.

I can't say enough about Ken and how thankful I am that I found him. I had to rebuild a massive deck all the way down to footings that surrounds three sides of my house and is two story in some places. In addition, it is on the side of a hill and is about 20' off the ground in some places. I have a great western (sunset) view, but one of the challenges is it gets blasted by the afternoon sun. Because of this I wanted it covered. Ken and I designed a replacement using pressure treated wood, trex, and metal railing...and it is AWESOME. Ken is a perfectionist in the best possible way. His work ethic is awesome (he was at my house at 8AM every day to start work), his attention to detail is second to none, and he insisted on using quality products and refused to cut any corners. Bottom line - the resulting deck build is everything we hoped for and is the envy of the neighborhood! I highly recommend Ken for any deck job big or small. Thanks again Ken. You rock!

Had the pleasure of being referred to Ken by a neighbor who had their deck built by him. Our deck was pretty old but had good bones so Ken removed the deck boards and installed new Redwood boards that look just beautiful. He and his workers were very professional and easy to work with. Ken went above and beyond and if I have the chance to work with him in the future I would jump at the chance. If you need any kind of deck work Ken is definitely your person.
