Literally life saving work. Jose, is someone I will appreciate forever. He came to replace our ducts that had an order that was from a dead rodent that was in our ducts. He replaced the ducts and did the job very quickly and efficiently. Then he noticed water dripping from our furnace. He could have left it as it wasn’t apart of our the initial job. He asked if he could assess and look at the cause. He found over 4 inches of water in our furnace! I told him that I wouldn’t have him do the work because I wanted to see if it was covered under our home warranty instead of paying out of pocket at this moment. The home warranty company was contracted with another company. They came out the following day and asked if we had used the heater and we said no because of the smell from the rodent in the ducts. But Jose repaired that so the smell was gone. The home warranty HVAC company stated that apparently our heating coils were rusted from the water in our furnace. If we used the furnace with the coils rusted our house could have released carbon monoxide! Had Jose not took the time to look into it we may have never known and I might be telling you a completely different story! Thank you so much for taking your time be thorough even though you didn’t have to be! Alamo heating and cooling is beyond amazing.

Response from the owner

The team at Alamo Heating & Cooling is grateful for your kind words and thrilled that Jose's attentiveness ensured your safety! Replacing the rodent-infested ducts was certainly a priority, but Jose's keen eye for detail in spotting the water damage in your furnace is what truly exemplifies our commitment to comprehensive customer care. We understand the importance of prioritizing your well-being, and Jose going the extra mile to identify the potential carbon monoxide hazard is a testament to that. Thank you for trusting us with your home's comfort and safety; we're here for you whenever you need us!

The representative diagnosed that the fan motor on the condenser unit was not working, and offered to replace it. He told me that it would be $900 to replace it. I went inside and found the exact replacement on Amazon for $132.00, and when I told him about it, he told me that the $900 would be the price they would charge me including installation. From my inspection of the unit, installation requires removing and replacing a total of four bolts and four screws, removing the watertight conduit and moving it to the new fan motor unit, Moving the fan blades to the new unit, and connecting three wires--hardly $768.00 worth of labor. When I told him I thought he was overcharging, he told me that was the price and that I should just do it myself if I thought I could do it for less. He left, then came back soon after and offered to do it for $680 off the clock. Again, I refused--I believed even THAT was significantly overcharging me. In the end, I paid the $85.00 for the house call, and ordered the part myself from Amazon, and will be certain share with anyone requesting any HVAC referral NOT TO USE Alamo because they will try to overcharge you. UPDATE: Upon meeting with the owner the following day, and on my request, the owner replaced the capacitor, and the unit functioned fine for several weeks, until September 9, when a wire "came off" the capacitor (it became unplugged from a spade connector oriented upward, with the wire connector plugged onto the spade from above--see attached photos for correct installation and detail of wire connections the day of the initial site visit; I didn't take a photo of the disconnected wire the day it failed). The same wire connector had remained securely connected to capacitors in the unit for at least 23 years, since I have owned the home, yet somehow appeared to have been uncrimped in a manner that resulted in the wire coming off the spade connector on the capacitor within weeks of the maintenance performed by Alamo. I can't conclude that it wasn't merely negligence from pulling the connector off to replace the capacitor, but the coincidence makes it difficult to ignore. The company had previously reversed the charges for the service call on the day of the initial service, and I was able to find and correct the problem with the wire connector that "came off" the capacitor spade and led to the failure September 9, so at least I wasn't out any money. I had offered to pay Alamo for the capacitor and for the house visit, but they have apparently declined.

We are committed to delivering exceptional 5-star service, and ensuring your satisfaction is our top priority. We deeply regret that your recent experience did not meet our usual standards. To address this, I personally visited you on Tuesday, August 15th, to directly address your concerns and find a resolution. Upon evaluating the situation, our technician initially provided a rough estimate of $600 to $900, considering the absence of cell phone service. Subsequently, our technician sought a signal to accurately assess the situation and confirmed that the service would amount to $680. This encompassed various factors such as labor, gas, insurance, and overhead expenses. We believe in pricing our services to reflect the high-quality work we consistently deliver, even though there might be less expensive alternatives available. Your feedback is invaluable, Joe, as it enables us to refine our services. In light of your concerns, I promptly issued a refund for the house call. We genuinely appreciate your input, as it propels us towards continuous improvement and our goal of offering outstanding service to our esteemed clients.
